Welcome to the website of the descendants of
John William and Susanna Adams

John William and Susanna Adams arrived in South Australia
with Governor Hindmarsh on the HMS Buffalo in 1836.

This site is dedicated to their memory and their descendants.

Here is the program for the day.

There will be plenty of time to have a chat and catch up with cousins, and look at the various artefacts and memorabilia.

We had a fantastic time with our 70th Reunion in 2024. Many attended the various events listed below.

We also had this video presentation specially created for our 70th Reunion, by Cheryl Camm, from England.

Approx 40 people enjoyed the sunshine, nice food at Balaklava and a time to view the headstones at the Whitwarta Cemetery. A particular focus were the two Adams gravesites, of John William and Susanna Adams, and William Herbert & Lucy Adams.

A plan to create an A3-sized weather proof sign, which displays the text of the headstones, was announced at the gravesite. So, in the future, when the gravestone has deteriorated further, people will be able to read what the gravestone said. This seemed like a good compromise, compared to the expensive option of refurbishing the headstone.

Another beautiful day of sunshine was enjoyed, as approx 35 people gathered at Holy Trinity Church, on North Terrace. We listened intently to the narrative of the history of the Church and how it weaved into the story of our family. In particular, John William Adams’ contribution to the setting up and running of the Church. Viewing the Bible and Prayer Book that was presented to JW Adams, by the Buffalo chaplain Rev Howard was very poignant, when you try to consider what has happened around those items.

Our Reunion weekend culminated with 135 people attending the reunion at Lockley Primary School, which is a wonderful, centrally-located venue, with plenty of room to move and share our day.
There was a photo booth where people dressed up in ‘period-style’ clothing, a tree of traced hands, lots of memorabilia and as usual, a wonderful provision of food and drinks to share.
We also enjoyed a great concert, similar to ‘the good old days’ at Willard Hall, with musical items, poems, including one sent from England. Our family photos were taken and we look forward to seeing them in a few weeks time.

COMMEMORATIVE VIDEO

A commemorative video from the 60th reunion(2013) was made
The 13min short-film includes family-relevant sites such as, The Buffalo, The old Gum Tree, Reed Banks, Adam St, Hindmarsh, Waterfall Gully and other places of significance to the family.
Local family members have provided the ‘voice-over’ commentary. It is a great momento for the family.

REFLECTIONS ON THE FIRST REUNION

A special recording from Lily Adams and Winifred Green
Lily & Winifred were the instigators of our first Adams descendants reunion. The audio presentation features the recording from a 33-1/3, 7 inch record, of Lily & Winifred describing how the first reunion got off the ground. This is an amazing insight into this great event, which we continue to benefit from their enthusiasm and tenacity.
